You cannot nourish a body that is full of toxins. Digestion must precede medication.
The Missing Link: What is Ama?
Many patients with chronic autoimmune diseases, severe joint pain, or hormonal imbalances try expensive supplements, healthy diets, and strong medications, yet see no improvement. In Ayurveda, the reason is simple: "Ama." Ama is a sticky, toxic byproduct of incomplete digestion. When your digestive fire (Agni) is weak, even the healthiest food turns into Ama.
How Ama Causes Chronic Disease
Once formed in the gut, Ama is absorbed into the bloodstream and settles in the weakest parts of the body. If it settles in the joints, it causes Rheumatoid Arthritis (Amavata). If it settles in the skin, it causes Psoriasis. If it clogs the insulin receptors, it causes Type 2 Diabetes. Ama creates an impenetrable barrier, preventing nutrients and medicines from reaching the cells.
Clearing the Blockage
This is why Ayurveda almost never starts a treatment plan with heavy, nourishing herbs. The first step is always "Deepana" and "Pachana"—igniting the digestive fire and burning away the accumulated Ama. Only when the tongue is clean, the body feels light, and the channels are open, can deep healing and cellular regeneration begin.
