Rheumatoid arthritis is not just a joint problem; it is a digestive problem that manifests in the joints.

The Amavata Connection: Why Your Gut Matters

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune condition where the body attacks its own joints. In Ayurveda, RA is known as "Amavata." It occurs when weak digestion (Manda Agni) leads to the creation of toxic, undigested metabolic waste (Ama). This Ama is carried by Vata dosha into the joints, triggering a severe inflammatory response. Therefore, treating RA must begin in the gut, not just the joints.

Detoxifying the Body: Langhana and Panchakarma

The first step in treating Amavata is "Langhana" (lightening therapies), which may involve fasting or strict dietary protocols to digest the existing Ama. Once the gut is stabilized, we use specific Panchakarma therapies, primarily Virechana (therapeutic purgation) or specific types of Basti, to flush the accumulated toxins out of the deep joint tissues.

Safely Reducing Steroid and Biologic Dependency

Many patients come to AyurCity exhausted by the side effects of chronic steroid and biologic use. As our Ayurvedic treatments begin to reduce systemic inflammation and CRP levels drop, we work closely with the patient to gradually and safely taper down their conventional immunosuppressants, aiming for a pain-free life with minimal medication dependency.
